Clean-cut pups

May 7, 2011

I know, I know. It's been awhile. It's been awhile since I've been on Internet period. We tried to get Internet activated yesterday but AT&T is still busy with the transfer.

Today, Andrea and I could finally give the pups a bath. We wanted to be able to bathe both of them so they could kind of get used to it together. Bosten did pretty good, but he did not like it at all! Not even when I combed his fur, which was Sparkie's favorite part. But he looked and smelt so much better afterwards.

I was not in the bathroom when Andrea washed Jayla, but she must have splashed around quite a bit. Andrea came out covered in water spots.

They still have accidents inside. I have no idea what to do. Mom suggested the pee pads again, but I don't want to resort to that. I think that would make it worse, not to mention permanent. They both bark every now and then when they need to go outside. We wish they would do that every time!

Yesterday, Andrea bought a dog carrier. It's pretty big, but it doesn't fit both of them comfortably so I think she's just going to keep it for Jayla. I will maybe find something else (more manly) for Bosten.

Tomorrow, they will be over at Mom and Dad's with me for Mother's Day!

Wanna treat?

May 1, 2011

Bosten has finally caught on to the word "treat" now so we're hoping this will help them with the training. They are figuring out that if they do their jobs outside, they will get a treat. Here's hoping it will work! Mom's worried we will have to settle for the puppy pee pads, but we think that will deter their training even more, thinking of it as a security blanket.

Andrea took a video of them while they were at the parents' house. I will upload it later!

Bosten had the hiccups for the first time (that I know of) tonight, and he did not like them one bit! I could tell he was nervous because he came and sat right on my neck, which he does sporadically, but whenever he hiccuped, he would readjust himself. Luckily he didn't have them long.

Come out and play!

April 26, 2011

I can't tell you how good it is to be home. Well, good and bad. However, for this blog, I'm only going to talk about the good.

Good: We get to relax. I know a vacation is usually for relaxation, but I had to show Andrea around Southern California since she had never been there before.

Good: We get to go back to work to earn back some of the money we spent!

Good: And definitely not least, we get to see our family and puppies! Boy have they grown in the small amount of days we have been gone! Bosten is definitely not a runt anymore! They seemed to have learned so much since we've been gone as well.

Today, we took them on their first walk. When we landed in Sioux Falls, we stopped at Target to get some dog food, treats, bones and harnesses for their leashes. We put their collars back on today, and it took them awhile to get used to them but they are definitely less frustrated and scratch at their necks less now too. Jayla didn't like the harness and leash at first. Bosten did a lot better. But in the end, they both did really well.

While they were playing this morning, Jayla hid under the hope chest again. The video below explains it all!

One more day!

April 24, 2011

Happy Easter! Mom called this morning to check in and wish us a good Easter in California. She had a lot to say about the pups as well.

She bought some treats for them, which turned out to be the ones I thought about buying. They already know that when they hear that bag open, they did something good. And Jayla already knows the word "treat." Hopefully this will help them with their potty training. They do really good not pooping in the house. It's peeing they have trouble with, because they haven't yet learned how to hold it.

Mom also took fingernail clippers and clipped their puppy claws. Good thing because they hurt! She was able to finish their back paws without them waking up, but they got frustrated when she started clipping their front claws. They did really good though, but they definitely need a bath when we get back!

We are so excited. We had so much fun in Los Angeles, but we are ready to get back to our work and our puppies!

Mama misses you Bosten!

That's not food!

April 22, 2011

Mom told Andrea that Bosten has been eating dandelions. Hopefully they won't make him sick. Silly puppy! I can't wait to get back home to see him!

Hurry back already!

April 21, 2011

We had our nightly chat with Mom to let her know we are safe and having fun in California. I told her about what Andrea and I did for the day and she told us about Jayla and Bosten. She also stated that she and Dad are ready for us to come home and take them back! Sounds like they're tired of cleaning up puppy pee!

We can't wait to get back to see those little buggers!

It's hard being away

April 18, 2011

Well, Andrea and I landed in California today. This will be the first full day we have been away from our puppies. It was so hard leaving Bosten yesterday. I couldn't stop holding him. Couldn't put him back down. I just wanted to stow him in my carry on. We called Mom and Dad today when we arrived, and she says they're having a blast pet-sitting and they have been really good. Jayla climbed up all the stairs. Bosten still has some trouble since he's so much smaller.

Although I'm excited for our vacation, I can't wait to get back to them and cuddle with Bosten. I will especially need a cuddle buddy now....

Cuddle buddy

April 16, 2011

This is one of my favorite pictures! Bosten and Jayla were playing at Mom and Dad's house. He must have ended up getting tired because he crawled up my back and just lay down! It was so adorable, i had to ask my sister to take a picture!

Meet the kids Kecia

April 14, 2011

Today, Kecia arrives for a weekend visit. Like Dad, she believes she will be able to hide one of the puppies in her purse and take him or her home. When we pulled into the driveway (she arrived just as I finished cleaning rooms and gave me a ride home), she waited in her call because she was on the phone. I went inside to get the pups and let them outside. She pretty much hung up the phone without saying goodbye!

She finds them extremely adorable, and stated she doesn't remember Sparkie ever being that small (see photo). When we brought him home from Nebraska, he was a bit bigger than Bosten and Jayla and he had fine fur rather than fluffy fur.

Update from last night: Danny and I ended up talking when he got back from Midland. I told him that I needed more from him.. help around the house (physical and financial) and I want him to spend more time with me. He listened, understood and felt really bad. Even said himself that he wasn't being fair to me, especially since I'm leaving for a week soon.

Today, he even called me at 3 p.m. when he finished work and asked to hang out with me before I went to work at 4 p.m. He's making the effort at least. Maybe this little vacation will bring us closer together. He said last night that it's going to be hard sleeping without me for a whole week. I'm going to miss him so much, and my baby of course, but I really need to get out of town for awhile.

For the time being, I'm glad Danny is still a part of my life. I was worried that he was ready to just give up. Thankfully, he asked to meet with me last night to talk about things.

Don't go Daddy Part II

April 13, 2011

Danny and I got into a pretty big fight this morning. How big? Big enough to the point where Danny might be picking up his things that he left at my house.

How do I feel about this?

I'm devastated of course. I don't want this to end. I love Danny. And so does Bosten.

I'm kind of mixing my blogs with this post, but this particular situation involves my puppy as well. He and Danny are so close, and I would hate to separate them. I just can't put up with Danny's problems much longer. I don't want to break up, but he didn't even want to talk about things this time. He wanted to give up. That right there scares me.

In the meantime, I have all of his things packed up and ready for pick-up. One of us is supposedly going to get ahold of the other tonight when I get done with work. I'm not sure if it's just for him to gather his things and go or if we are going to try to work through our differences ... again.

I hope we can. For our sakes, and for Bosten's. On the bright side, Bosten is still so young that this might not affect him much.

Will he learn?

April 12, 2011

Today, I noticed that Jayla has become more obedient faster than Bosten. She knows the word "no," and she listens. She understands her name. Bosten still doesn't respond to his name all the time. And he has a hard time obeying me when I say "no" or "come." This frightened me. So this afternoon I worked with him. Now, when I say "no" and slap him lightly on the nose, he just sits down and stops most of the time. He still has trouble, but now I have hope that he will understand in the future.

The weather has been nice lately so I have been playing with them outside when I have time. However, yesterday I was happy when they were ready to take a nap so I could finally get some yard work down. It's fun to run around with them though.

I snapped this photo last night when Danny and I were laying in bed. Danny spoils Bosten by laying him on his back and scratching his tummy. Bosten just loves this. I think it's one of the reasons he takes so kindly to Danny.

Grr....

April 11, 2011

The hamper isn't working so well anymore. As I was getting ready this morning, I noticed two piles of poopy on the living room floor. I told Danny and he replied Jayla had gotten out sometime.

Not sure we would have had that problem had Andrea come home last night. She needs to learn that she can't go out and party as much anymore now that she has a puppy. At least not party to the point where she doesn't come home at all.

She told me that she doesn't like Danny and me keeping her in our room while she's working or out with friends. She's worried she will get more used to us two if we continue. Well, since they still aren't potty-trained, we kind of have to keep an eye on them at all times. And if she didn't go out so much, Jayla wouldn't be stuck in our room that much. Therefore, I won't feel sorry for her if Jayla does get more comfortable around Danny and me.

What bothers me so much is this was her idea in the first place. Yet, I end up taking care of her puppy as much if not a little more than she. And this summer when she starts working at the park, I know I'm going to be taking care of both of them quite a bit. It doesn't bother me. I love them both. It just frustrates me that she thinks she can buy a puppy and not take care of her all the time, pawning her on me. When they get older and can take care of themselves and learn how to hold it until they're let outside, it won't be a big deal. But Andrea needs to take care of her more in her training stages.

Rain, rain go away

April 10, 2011

He started the head cock!

Update: Well, I tell you what. I'm getting somewhat frustrated. They both haven't had as much problems with potty accidents as they have these past two days. I'm not sure if it is the rain and the wet grass or what. I just hope they learn soon, because all three of us are getting tired of cleaning up after them. When I catch them doing it, I will slap them lightly on the butt, saying no and rubbing their nose in it. That's how we trained Sparkie, and I hope it works on Bosten and Jayla as well.

I know neither of these puppies are Danny's, but he has kind of adopted Bosten as his own as well as mine. However, he hates waking up in the middle of the night to let them outside. This worries me. He tells me he wants to have a child with me and wants to start trying soon, but what if he is the same way with a child? I don't want to be raising a baby on my own. This also is a whole new post for a different blog.

Oh, and for whoever reads this, don't worry.. I'm still on birth control. I'm not ready to have a child with Danny just yet. We still have a lot to work on.

Have patience

April 9, 2011

To my surprise, Bosten didn't wake me up until 6:30 a.m. to go outside. After that, he let me sleep until 10:30! Jayla woke me up in the middle of the night though. But it seems as if they are getting better.

However..

They both had several accidents in the house today. Danny seemed to think it was because it had been raining. They don't especially like walking on the wet grass so he thought Bosten might have been holding it to avoid going out into the mist.

Andrea said she thinks Jayla is starting to recognize her name as well. They both seem to be doing a lot better with words lately. When Bosten wakes up in his hamper and whines, I ask, "Gotta go outside?" or "Gotta go potty?" and he will get all excited. So I have high hopes that these two will be pretty smart and obedient.

Fingers crossed.

Knock on wood.

What's my name?

April 8, 2011

It seems as if Bosten is starting to recognize his name. He still doesn't come right away when we call him, but he eventually catches on and comes running to us.

I suppose I could explain my choice for his name. For those who don't know me well, I enjoy watching the Boston Red Sox. I like the name Boston, but I decided to switch it up and swap the second O for an E. Of course, and I knew he would, Danny nicknamed him Boss, which I still like.

Bosten had a poopy accident last night, but it was my fault. I fell asleep before putting him in his hamper so I didn't hear him wake up. I can't wait until we get tags for them, and they finally have to get comfortable with their collars. Other than that, he's been good today.

They both got to see Mom and Dad for a bit. I tell you what, Mom and Dad sure are excited to be able to puppy sit them for a week while Andrea and I vacation in California. My only worry is that they get too comfortable with them since they're still so young.. or that we won't get them back! Danny is pretty bummed to go a week without seeing them. You know, I really hope he and my parents can get along again soon so things won't be so awkward. But that's a whole new post for a completely different blog.

Don't go Daddy

April 7, 2011

Bosten still has a hard time saying goodbye to us when we leave for work, especially Danny in the early morning. He starts whining even when Danny puts his work clothes on. He's so smart. It breaks my heart when he cries though. Danny didn't want to leave for work today because of it. After I took him outside and fed him a little bit, he decided to play with Daddy's shoes. I'm so glad they get along so well.

I accidentally stumbled over Jayla today. She whimpered and ran away from me. I felt so bad. I held her and stroked her and kissed her. I knew she would be fine, but I still felt horrible! One thing about dogs: they spoil us humans with unconditional love. It doesn't matter how much you discipline them or trip over them, five minutes later, they're ready to cuddle and lick again.

I love that Bosten is becoming so familiar with me that he gets excited when I come home from work. I came home for dinner break tonight, Danny was outside with the dogs trying to get them to do their business, and as soon as they saw me, they came running. It's always a good feeling knowing your pet gets happy and excited to see you.

Sleep, sleep, sleep

April 6, 2011

Bosten has done really good with going to the bathroom outside so far today. The hamper has worked so far. Since dogs won't pee where they sleep, when he woke up in the middle of the night and had to go to the bathroom, he whined waking me up. I'm so glad I thought of that idea.

They wouldn't let us go back to bad after 7 a.m. which I'm fine with, but Andrea will have to get used to. They played in the dining room for awhile and Bosten tried playing with a dead spider. He would pounce at it, sit and watch, wondering why it wouldn't respond. So cute!

Well, Andrea and I both work tonight. Danny should be home not long after I leave, but we will see how it goes! I usually don't take dinner breaks on Wednesdays because I leave early, but I might decide to so I can check in on them.

Update: Well, I ended up taking a dinner break and working until 10:30 p.m. It was hard being away from Bosten for so long, but Danny did a good job taking care of them while I was gone. He ended up taking Bosten over to Chaz's who, like Tony, also thought he was cute. It's funny how these hardcore men who say house dogs are stupid fall in love with them so easily when they see their cute puppy faces.

Jayla and I had fun playing after I took them both outside when I got home. And Bosten slept really good in the hamper again tonight. Wimpered whenever he needed to go potty. I just love these guys!!

Need to clean

April 5, 2011

I had the day off again. However, I got a call that my Mac had been fixed so I had to go up to Rapid quick to pick it up. Luckily, it was around noon so I had enough time to get up there, pick up my Mac, buy a few things at Target and get back not long after Andrea had to leave for work at 2 p.m. They were alone again for a half hour and did great this time.

Jayla still has trouble with peeing inside. Unlike Bosten, she hasn't learned to hold it yet. So instead of peeing a lot occasionally, she pees a little all the time. It's frustrating. I even swatted her on the butt once.

When I got back, I decided to clean up a bit, although Danny promised to help me when he got home from work. I started the dishes and cleaned off a counter and cleaned up my bedroom again. Danny helped me with the rest of the dishes, but promised to wash the counters and sweep the floor tomorrow. He better! We also need to vacuum, especially in our bedroom since that's usually where we eat.

Danny finally brought his clean clothes home, and I got the great idea of putting Bosten's bed blankets in the hamper so that he would have to whine to go to the bathroom. This should help us realize when he has to pee in the middle of the night.

First time alone

April 4, 2011

Well, the main time Bosten has potty accidents is at night when we don't hear him wake up, which isn't his fault. Otherwise, he's doing pretty great.

Andrea worked at 2 p.m. today and I worked until 3; they were alone for a whole hour today. I was kind of worried about this, but when I got home, they were in the kitchen eating. Bosten peed on the blanket, but I took them out right away and at least he pooped outside!

I ended up going over to Mom and Dad's so they could see them again. They aren't comfortable in the car yet. Jayla shakes quite a bit. Bosten is a little better.

Danny texted me when he was done with work and at Chaz's. We agreed to meet at home within an hour. I texted him before I left to make sure he was home and he replied, "Yes ma'am. Bring my baby home." He is so adorable, I love it. And to be honest, I'm getting kind of jealous because I'm not getting much attention anymore!

Raising Bosten

April 3, 2011

I have the day off, and so does Danny. We have the whole day to spend with the puppies. You should see Danny with them. If he is this great with puppies, I can only imagine how great of a father he will make.

This morning when they were goofing off, Jayla decided to play hide-and-seek. I wish I could have gotten a picture of her coming back out, just her head poking out.

Bosten and Jayla still sleep a lot during the day. They eat, they play, the sleep. Repeat.

Andrea, Jayla, Bosten and I took a nap together while Danny was visiting friends, falling asleep to How I Met Your Mother: Season Two. Then Andrea had to go to work so Danny and I had the little ones all to ourselves. For the most part, the four of us just lay in bed watching movies and cuddling.

They both did really well eating today. And the cutest thing: Bosten had the hiccups this morning. I wanted to wake Danny up to show him, but knew how tired he was.

Mom and Dad really wanted to see them again today. However, it was so windy and cold outside that Bosten and Jayla hated going out to even pee. So I didn't want to take them outside if I didn't have to. And I didn't want to go outside if I didn't have to!

Coming home

April 2, 2011

There are too many things to say about these two new additions to our family. Andrea and I each bought a Yorkie today. I chose a boy and named him Bosten; Andrea named her girl Jayla. They're brother and sister and so adorable. I wish we could have taken her sister to keep them all together.

To be completely honest, I'm nervous about raising a dog, but it definitely will be good practice for when I become a mother. I did a good job with Sparkie but I was sso young when we got him, I didn't have to do the training.

The puppies are six weeks old and teething. Jayla's further along but Bosten's got old-man-without-dentures teeth. It feels so funny when he bites, or should I say nibbles you.

They've had a couple potty accidents today, but not as many as I thought they would. Maybe we will get lucky again like we did with Sparkie.

Andrea took them over after Kelsey dropped them off Saturday to pick up some of Sparkie's belongings: dog bowls, treat holder, blankets, leashes, etc. I met them after I finished cleaning, didn't even stop to change out of my uniform. The parents of course fell in love with him. After we put Sparkie down, Dad said they weren't going to get another dog. After seeing my Bosten, however, he was ready to change his mine. And steal him from me!

My biggest scare was introducing Bosten to Danny, who prefers larger dogs like Rottweilers. To my surprise, Danny fell in love with him instantly. Here I thought I was gaining a second cuddle buddy when my number one steals this new one away from me! I'm happy Danny likes him so much though. I love watching him with Bosten.
